Employees in the UAE federal departments and ministries can work shorter hours on Monday (August 28) as schools reopened for the school year.

According to the Federal Authority for Government and Human Resource, shorter work hours will be allowed as an option to working parents as part of the UAE’s back-to-school plan. Employees will be given the option to have their work day shortened by up to three hours: they can report to work late or finish work early.

“The ‘Back to School’ policy also allows for flexible working arrangements during other occasions and circumstances related to the school year, as long as it doesn’t disrupt the workflow in the entity and is in accordance with the Federal Government’s Human Resources Law and its executive regulations,” state news agency WAM quoted the authority as saying.

The directives apply to employees with children at schools, nurseries and kindergartens across the UAE, with the authority saying it was also aimed at boosting employees’ work-life balance. ICA/Expat Media
