Dh1,000 fine against violating bus’ stop sign rules

The Abu Dhabi Police reminded motorists on Thursday (April 6) of the Dh1,000 fine to guarantee the security of the children who board and disembark school buses daily.

The police urged drivers to always come to a complete stop as soon as the stop sign arm on a school bus swings opens in a social media post.

According to the Abu Dhabi Police, vehicles must specifically stop five meters away from the school bus. Hazard lights must also be turned on until everyone can pass without incident.

Other pointers

— On single-lane roads, drivers should stop at least five meters apart in both directions.
— On two-way streets, the driver traveling in the same direction as the bus must stop at least five meters away.

The major traffic offense of failing to stop when the sign is displayed carries a Dh1,000 fine and 10 black points. KD/Expat Media
