UAE to ban midday outdoor work from June 15

The UAE will begin a ban on midday outdoor work on June 15, officials said on Wednesday (June 8).

The annual ban on outdoor work will be imposed from 12:30pm until 3pm from June 15 until September 15.

Under the ban, companies are prohibited from letting their workers and construction staff to work outdoors between 12:30pm to 3pm, considered the hottest hours of the day.

During this period, outdoor workers are expected to have a midday break and must be provided with a shaded resting place.

Companies that violate the rule will be fined Dh5,000 per worker, and a maximum of Dh50,000 in case several workers are employed during the ban. The ministry may also downgrade the status of the company.

Under the rule, daily working hours should also not exceed eight hours, and that any extra time rendered will be deemed paid overtime.

Mohsen Al Nassi, acting undersecretary for inspections at the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, urged employees to report companies that violate the outdoor work ban and call 600 590000. ICA/Expat Media
