DUBAI – Organisers of sports events in Dubai can no longer use the word “Dubai” as part of the event name without getting approval from the Dubai Sports Council.
Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, issued the decision on the terms and conditions for using the name of Dubai in sports events.
This is based on a law regulating sports establishments and sports events in the emirate.
Under the law, “it is prohibited to use the name ‘Dubai’ by a sports event, except after obtaining the prior approval of Dubai Sports Council”.
1. The applicant must be licensed to work in Dubai and must have significant role in local, regional and international levels.
2. The sports event must have significant impact on Dubai.
3. The name “Dubai” should be used for the purpose of the sports event only and within the period specified in the approval.
3. No person shall have the right to own the name or logo of the sporting event in which the name “Dubai” is required to be used.
Organisers can submit an application for approval with the Dubai Sports Council, which shall study the application thoroughly and issue a decision of acceptance or rejection of the application. ICA/Expat Media
