The ruler of Sharjah has ordered the start of development work on Kalba Beach.

Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, ordered that the Kalba Beach upgrade will include restrooms, restaurants, cafes and games.

The project will see Kalba Beach given a new look with restaurants, cafés, kiosks, children’s zone and other facilities for leisure and entertainment. The project is expected to be completed in 2024.

Meanwhile, the newly created housing near Kalba Beach has recently been handed over to UAE citizens. Sheikh Sultan directed authorities to assign a company to assist the building owners in rents.

Kalba is located east of Sharjah city, and near the south of Fujairah. It is the southernmost inhabited area of Sharjah before the border with Oman. Kalba has a long sandy beach and clear turquoise waters. It is an important nesting site for hawksbill turtles.

Since 2021, Sharjah’s ruler has overseen development projects in Kalba, including the 9.5 km-long Kalba Beach Corniche. The aim is to make Sharjah one of the top travel destinations in the UAE. ICA/Expat Media
