Sharjah ruler issues law strengthening social services

The ruler of Sharjah has issued a law strengthening the emirate’s social services through the Sharjah Social Services Department (SSSD).

Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, gave the SSSD legal capacity to carry out its work.

According to the law, the department will seek to provide social welfare and ensure a decent living for individuals and families; as well as shelter, protect and support the most vulnerable groups in society and improve their conditions.

The SSSD will also be responsible for upgrading and organizing social work in Sharjah, and enhance community cohesion between individuals, families and community institutions.

In accordance with the law, the department shall have a chairperson appointed by an Emiri Decree, assisted by a sufficient number of employees, experts and consultants. ICA/Expat Media
