Sharjah ruler issues decree on fishing rules in Kalba

Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued a decree organising some fishing regulations in Kalba.

According to the decree, Kalba fishermen may only pass through banned areas designated by buoys in order to reach fishing areas where they are allowed. However, they should not do any fishing activities in banned areas while passing through.

Under the new decree, fishermen in Kalba are also not allowed to export and sell fish outside Kalba markets.

The decree also stipulated that fisherman who have been badly affected by the Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) procedures, will be compensated for their confiscated and destroyed equipment and for the period of unemployment caused by the procedures.

A committee will be formed to study and propose the proper compensation for them and submit it for approval.

This committee will include Major General Saif Mohammed Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander in Chief of Sharjah Police, Ali Ahmed Ali Abu Ghazin, Chairman of the Sharjah Fish Resources Authority and Mohammed Bin Shahrain, President of the Kalba Fishermen’s Association. ICA/Expat Media
