Sharjah cancels all New Year celebrations, bans fireworks and shows

There will be no New Year celebrations in Sharjah after the emirate cancelled celebrations out of solidarity with Palestinians affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

The announcement was made by Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qassimi, wife of the Ruler of Sharjah, who wrote on X, “Sharjah cancels all New Year celebrations out of solidarity with our people in Palestine.”

Sharjah Police said that all celebrations, including fireworks and shows, will be banned in the emirate. Police warned that violators will face legal measures.

The war in Gaza, which escalated on October 7, has killed an estimated 20,915 people and injured more than 54,000 others. ICA/Expat Media
