RTA public transport photo contest opens, rules revealed


DUBAI – The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) photography contest began on Sunday (June 27) as the authority released full rules for participants.

The competition will run until July 15 and is being done in collaboration with Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA).

Participants must take their most creative photos of any public transport in Dubai: Dubai Metro, Dubai Tram, bus, taxi, ferry or abra. Photography is not allowed inside RTA’s public transport modes and stations in Dubai to ensure commuters’ privacy.

Participants must submit a minimum of three photos, with at least one for each theme: Art and Architecture, Public Transport, and Emirati Culture and Lifestyle.

The first prize is Dh10,000 while the second prize is Dh7,000 and the third prize is Dh3,000. Another 25 winners will also get Nol cards valued at Dh1,000 each. Winning entries will be printed on Nol cards.

Meanwhile, the RTA reminded participants to “adhere to prescribed terms and conditions, especially in regards to passengers privacy on board public transport means.”

RTA x HIPA photography contest rules

2. Submit entries within June 27 to 24:00 on July 15

3. Participant must be 18 years old or older

4. Submit one photo in each category

5. Provide title and description for each submitted photo

6. No same photo must be submitted in more than one category

7. Submit photo in original JPEG format, with high quality and resolution of a minimum 2 MB in size, the minimum of the longest edge should be no less than 2000 pixel and the quality no less than 300dpi to be suitable for printing on Nol card.

8. Submissions from mobile phones and drones are allowed, should not be less than 2 MB in size and must be suitable for printing on Nol card.

9. Upload original photos in raw form without editing

10. Photos must not contain tags, signature, initial, frame, border, logo or any marks

11. Basic technical editing of photos is acceptable, provided that any such editing does not affect the authenticity or genuineness of the photos. Advanced editing used to create illusions, or manipulations; including compositing and creative retouching of photos is prohibited.

12. Photos that include inappropriate content such as nudity, violence or anything deemed contrary to UAE religious, cultural and/or public morals traditions and practices will be disqualified.
