Pope Francis appears in a live televised broadcast at the Vatican.

Pope Francis to visit Dubai despite health issue

Pope Francis has revealed he is suffering from lung inflammation, but said he will still go to Dubai later this week to attend the COP28.

Pope Francis previously said he will be in Dubai from December 1 to 3 for the climate change conference at Expo City Dubai. This is the first time that a pontiff will join the COP28.

On Sunday (November 26), the pontiff was unable to make his weekly Sunday appearance at the Vatican window. He gave his traditional noon blessing from a live televised broadcast.

“Brothers and sisters, happy Sunday. Today I cannot appear at the window because I have this problem of inflammation of the lungs,” Pope Francis said.

He also said he will visit the UAE for the COP28 and deliver his speech on Saturday (December 2) to participants. He described the climate change problem as a serious problem. Pope Francis also thanked all those who would be following his three-day trip to Dubai with prayers. COP28 will run from November 30 to December 12 at Expo City Dubai.

During the live televised broadcast from a chapel in the Vatican, the pope was seen with a bandaged hand and what appeared to be a cannula, suggesting that he was receiving intravenous treatment. ICA/Expat Media
