New Dubai taxi rates and flag down fees

Taxi services in Dubai now have new flag down rates at specific times and locations, according to the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The fare difference was first implemented on New Year’s Eve, with flag down rates starting at Dh20 in areas where fireworks and celebrations were scheduled.

During major events

The RTA announced that the flag down rate of Dh20 will also apply to regular taxis as well as Hala Taxis at locations of major events such as exhibitions and international conventions like Global Village, World Trade Center and Expo City.

Hailing a taxi from airport

The Dh20 flag down rate or starting fare will also apply when hailing a taxi from Dubai Airports or Port Rashid or if traveling to a different emirate from Dubai. It increases to Dh25 for family taxis or taxis for special needs that are hailed from Dubai Airports or Port Rashid.

Waiting fare

A waiting fare of 50 fils per minute will also be applied if the trip is delayed due to heavy traffic or other reasons, according to the RTA.

According to the RTA, the dynamic fare is aimed at improving taxi services, particularly in times and areas where there are increased demand.

Regular flag down rate

On regular days, the flag down rate starts at Dh12 if a regular or family taxi is booked through Careem or the RTA’s S’hail app.

The flag down rate starts at Dh5 when hailing a regular or family taxi on the road between 6am and 10pm. The flag down rate starts at Dh5.50 for trips between 10pm and 6am.

Taxis for special needs, ladies

Special taxis for people of determination will have a flag down rate of Dh8 between 6am and 10pm, and increases to Dh9 between 10pm and 6am. For pink taxis or ladies’ taxis, the stating fare is Dh6, which increases to Dh7 after 10pm. ICA/Expat Media
