Dubai: Man who found wallet jailed for theft

An Asian man has been jailed in Dubai for using an ATM card and Dh1,200 from a wallet that he found in Al Qouz.

The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld his one month jail term, but revoked a deportation order against him. He was also fined Dh2,000.

The case dates back to August when the owner of the wallet reported it missing to the police. He was buying from a store in Al Qouz when he lost the wallet.

He was shocked when he received an SMS that his ATM had been used to buy food items. Police investigators were able to track down and arrest the suspect.

During interrogation, the defendant said he found the wallet containing the man’s Emirates ID, money and ATM card, which he used to buy food. He said that he threw away the wallet after getting the cash and the ATM card. ICA/Expat Media
