DUBAI – A European man disguised in an abaya to steal Dh3 million from an apartment in Dubai was caught within 47 minutes of the crime, according to Dubai Police.
The police said on Friday (November 1) that they received a tip-off about the abaya-clad man wandering around Dubai with a luggage in tow.
When police confronted the suspect, they found luxury watches and Dh3 million in his luggage. They also found another luggage where he kept equipment that he used to break open a safe.
Following an investigation, police discovered that the European man had broken into the City Walk apartment of a merchant who was in Europe at the time of the incident.
Police said the suspect then located the safe and poured corrosive chemicals to disable the alarm. He then drilled through the steel.
The safe contained Dh10 million and other precious items, but in his haste, the suspect was only able to steal Dh3 million. ICA/Expat Media
