Buckingham Palace confirmed on Thursday that Queen Elizabeth II, the longest-reigning monarch in British history, passed away at 96.
Following the queen’s 70-year reign, her eldest son Charles, 73, inherits the throne immediately following centuries of protocol, ushering in a new chapter for the royal family.
King Charles III will address the nation on Friday, according to a representative for Clarence House, in what will be his first speech since the passing of his mother, Queen Elizabeth.
After his mother, Queen Elizabeth, passed away on Thursday, Charles, the new king of Britain, issued the following statement.
“The death of my beloved Mother, Her Majesty The Queen, is a moment of the greatest sadness for me and all members of my family.
“We mourn profoundly the passing of a cherished Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the Realms, and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.
“During this period of mourning and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which The Queen was so widely held.” BKM/ Expat Media
