Kalayaan 2024, a celebration of Philippine Independence Day, will be held in Dubai on June 9, organizer Infinite Communities announced on Friday (March 8).

The day-long event will be held at Dubai World Trade Center from 8am to 8pm, and promises a vibrant blend of entertainment and culture as Filipinos celebrate the 126th anniversary of their independence. Kalayaan 2024 is being co-presented by Emirates Loves Philippines for the third consecutive year, and The Filipino Channel.

“This annual extravaganza has evolved into a symbol of unity, talent, and diversity, with the 2023 edition attracting an estimated 30,000 footfall from across the UAE and beyond, solidifying its position as one of the world’s largest Filipino migrant community celebrations,” according to Infinite Communities. Admission to Kalayaan 2024 is free.

Kim Chiu, Paulo Avelino to perform

Two ABS-CBN stars are coming to join this year’s celebrations, according to The Filipino Channel, a long-time partner of Kalayaan.

“It has been our pleasure to support Kalayaan for many years and this year as we celebrate TFC’s 30th anniversary we are proud to bring to the Kalayaan stage, two of our biggest stars, Kim Chiu and Paulo Avelino,” said Joseph Arnie Garcia Managing Director ABS-CBN EMEA.

50 years of UAE-Philippine diplomatic ties

The upcoming celebration commemorates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the UAE and the Philippines and also serves as a platform for Filipinos to show their talents and celebrate their unique culture in their second home, the UAE.

Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso Ferdinand Ver urged Filipinos to join the independence day celebrations.

”It is with great pleasure that I note that this year’s celebration of the 126th anniversary of the proclamation of Philippine Independence coincides with the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the UAE. Therefore, I enjoin all Filipinos to keep in mind these two significant events that make 2024 a banner year for us, as we undertake our celebrations this year,” Ver said, “I congratulate and give my best wishes to the team behind Kalayaan 2024, and all other groups as they prepare for this grand occasion.”

Filipino community groups, as well as private and business sectors and educational institutions are poised to contribute to Kalayaan 2024’s success.

“The Kalayaan celebration is our pride and joy, an epic production created by the community, for the community, with the unwavering support and generosity of Emirates Loves Philippines, now on its 3rd year of presenting and The Filipino Channel,” said Elena Cruz, founder and CEO of Infinite Communities.

Community champion Josie Conlu adds: “While last year’s Kalayaan 2023 was a breathtaking success, this year’s event promises to be an even grander spectacle, showcasing more talent, more diversity, and a richer tapestry of Filipino culture, fostering unity and camaraderie among the community.” ICA/Expat Media
