Jail, up to Dh1 million fine for child porn in UAE, Public Prosecution warns

 

DUBAI – The UAE Public Prosecution warned of tough penalties for watching, sharing or downloading child pornography materials on social media.

On Monday (August 2), the Public Prosecution said that acquiring pornographic materials, specifically those involving children or juveniles, is considered a crime in the UAE.

Under the UAE law on combatting cybercrimes, anyone who “deliberately acquired pornographic materials involving juveniles by using an electronic information system or computer network or electronic website or any information technology means shall be punished by imprisonment for a period of at least six months and a fine not less than Dh150,000 and not more than Dh1 million.

Pornography involving juveniles means any photograph, recording, drawing or other material that arouses sex organs or any actual, virtual or simulated sexual acts with a juvenile under the age of 18.
