Indian who went missing in Abu Dhabi found dead in Pakistan jail: reports

An Indian man who went missing in Abu Dhabi has died in jail in Pakistan, according to Indian media reports on Tuesday (May 23).

Indian Express quoted official sources as saying that the Pakistani government identified the deceased as the missing person Zulfikar, a 48-year-old man from Kerala. He died on May 21.

The Pakistan government has reportedly informed the Union Home Ministry that the body will be handed over at the Attari-Wagha border. The body will reportedly be buried in the Marayamkunnu Juma Masjid in Kerala if it is handed over to his relatives.

Sources told Indian Express that Zulfikar left Kerala for Abu Dhabi in 2018, and that he subsequently went missing, with intelligence report saying he moved to Iran before landing in jail in Pakistan. Zulfikar reportedly had links to the terror group Daesh (ISIS).

According to reports, Zulfikar’s wife and two children lived with him in Abu Dhabi. His family claims that he was arrested and jailed in Pakistan after going fishing and illegally entering the country.

Zulfiqar’s father told The New Indian Express that they are waiting for his body to reach Kerala. C.V. Hameed said that Zulfikar worked as a sales representative for a company in Abu Dhabi for six years before he went missing five years ago. He confirmed that Zulfiqar’s wife and children are still in Abu Dhabi, but have had no information about him in the last five years.

An investigation is ongoing to find out the circumstances surrounding his case. ICA/Expat Media
