India: 35kg ovarian tumor removed from a mother of three

An ovarian tumor weighing 35 kg was surgically removed from a woman in the southern Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Nagamma, 46, a resident of the town of Poluru, had been in agonizing pain for the past two years.

After consulting with local physicians, she was diagnosed with a small tumor in her ovaries Her doctors advised her to get an operation to have it removed.

Nagamma did not seek more advanced medical help for financial reasons.

Doctors claimed that as time went on, the tumor swelled to such a size and weight that she was unable to move.

Ms. Nagamma went to the Government Maternity Hospital in the Tirupati district. They performed surgery on July 28 and removed the tumor in an hour-long operation. BKM/ Expat Media
