flydubai suspends Israel flights as Emirates halts Tel Aviv codeshares

Passengers travelling between Dubai and Israel face flight disruptions after flydubai temporarily suspended services to and from the country while authorities investigate an onboard incident involving flight FZ1073.

The airline announced the suspension following Wednesday’s (September 30) incident on a flight travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv that diverted to Saudi Arabia and landed safely at Tabuk Airport.

A flydubai spokesperson said the temporary suspension was being implemented in co-ordination with the relevant authorities to allow investigators to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident.

The airline said passenger, crew and operational safety remained its top priority and that it would continue to support the investigation while co-ordinating with government agencies, regulators and airport operators.

It apologised to affected passengers and said it was working to provide assistance and arrange alternative travel options where possible. The suspension will be reviewed as more information becomes available.

Emirates suspends codeshare services

Emirates has also suspended its codeshare operations with flydubai to and from Tel Aviv with immediate effect and until further notice.

In a travel update, Emirates said passengers whose final destination is Tel Aviv would not be accepted for travel at their point of origin. Customers already en route to Tel Aviv will be accommodated and given “all possible support” to complete their journeys, the airline said.

Affected customers have been advised to contact their travel agent or the Emirates contact centre, or visit the airline’s website for the latest information. Emirates has also asked passengers to check that their contact details are up to date in the “Manage Your Booking” section so they can receive itinerary updates.

What happened on flight FZ1073?

The flight was travelling from Dubai International Airport to Ben Gurion International Airport on September 30 when an incident occurred in the flight deck, according to flydubai.

The aircraft diverted to Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia and landed safely. The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority said some crew members were injured and taken to hospital for treatment.

The UAE Attorney-General has since ordered a specialised investigation into the incident, including whether it involved terrorist activity or prior planning. Authorities have cautioned against speculation while the inquiry continues. ICA/Expat Media
