Filipina dies after being hit by car in Dubai Hills

A Filipina expatriate has died after she was hit by a car in Dubai Hills, her family has confirmed.

The victim was identified as 48-year-old Gina A.S. (full name withheld). The incident happened on the evening of February 2.

Witnesses at Dubai Hills said the Filipina was on her way home and was trying to catch the free bus when she was hit by a car while at the pedestrian crossing. She was declared dead on arrival at the hospital.

Gina hailed from Mlang in North Cotabato, Philippines. She was working as a nanny in Dubai Hills, a luxury residential area located within Mohammed bin Rashid City.

The victim’s daughter, Britney, posted on social media that Gina had been working abroad for nearly ten years, and haven’t seen her family within that time.

“You worked so hard, but this is what happened to you… I can’t accept what happened,” Britney said in a post in Filipino. Britney, 20, said she was only in Grade 4 when her mother left to work abroad.

Gina’s family in the Philippines are hoping for her quick repatriation. ICA/Expat Media
