Family of man killed in Abu Dhabi car crash loses Dh200,000 compensation

A court in Abu Dhabi has dismissed a civil lawsuit filed by the family of a man killed in a car crash.

The victim’s family had demanded Dh200,000 compensation from the driver and the insurance company.

According to records, the driver accidentally crashed his car into the car of the victim, who later died from his injuries.

The victim’s family had previously filed a criminal case against the driver, who was found guilty of accidentally killing the man. The driver was fined Dh5,000 and ordered to pay Dh200,000 compensation to the victim’s family.

Then the victim’s family filed the current civil lawsuit against the driver and the insurance company to claim compensation for moral and material damages.

The driver’s lawyer argued that the family had already been awarded Dh200,000 in compensation in their criminal case against his client.

He asked the court to dismiss the recent case for lack of justification, and judges ruled in his favour, saying that the Dh200,000 compensation had already been awarded to the family. ICA/Expat Media
