Expats planning to exit UAE win Dh15 million in Big Ticket

DUBAI – A group of 20 Indian expatriates thinking of leaving the UAE for good got a “second lease of life” by winning the Dh15 million jackpot in Big Ticket Abu Dhabi.

The group had pooled their money to buy the winning ticket for last Friday’s draw because none of them owned a credit card. Now, each of them are Dh750,000 richer.

“This win is really helpful for my friends working at shops. They don’t earn much. Struggling through a difficult situation these days, most of them were on their way back to Kerala before this unexpected lottery win,” said Noufel Mayan Kalathil, who is sharing the jackpot with his friends.

The 45-year-old Indian expat has been buying Big Ticket coupons every two months for the past two years.

Kalathil, who has been living in the UAE since 2005, said he will use his winnings to pay off his debts and to pay for the education of his two sons. ICA/Expat Media
