Emirates to give ‘biggest bonus’ worth 24-week’s salary to employees in May 2023

Emirates chairman and CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum has given an advice to employees as he announced that they will be getting 24 weeks’ worth of salary as a bonus this May.

“Invest it wisely, save or spend it well and enjoy the results of your hard work,” Sheikh Ahmed said in an email sent to all Emirates airline staff, as seen by Expatmedia.net.

The email, which was sent out on Thursday (May 11), read that the bonus is a reward “for our outstanding performance in 2022-2023, you deserve every bit of the 24-week profit share, which will be included in your May salary.”

Speaking to Expatmedia.net, a long-time Emirates employee said this is the “biggest bonus” yet that he has received in his nearly 30-year tenure with the airline. He added that this is their first bonus since 2020, when the pandemic disrupted businesses worldwide.

“All staff worldwide will receive the bonus, except those who joined us six months ago or have not yet completed their 6-month probation period at the time of the announcement,” the employee, who requested anonymity, told Expatmedia.net.

The bonus will be computed based on the staff’s basic salary, and will be given out along with their salary in May.

The Emirates employee said he will be taking Sheikh Ahmed’s advice to “spend it wisely”. “I will be using the bonus to pay for my kids’ education for one year and pay off my credit card debt. The rest will go to my savings,” he said, adding that if Emirates reaches its sales target next year, then employees can expect another profit-sharing bonus.

Another Emirates employee, Ian (full name withheld), expressed his happiness with the upcoming bonus. “I am so happy since this is the first time in my 13 years of working in the UAE that I have received such a huge bonus. I will invest part of it, and also spend it on renovating our house back in my home country,” he told Expatmedia.net.

Emirates Group has more than 100,000 employees worldwide. The company reported a record annual profit of Dh10.9 billion.

“We have delivered a record financial performance and cash balance for our financial year 2022-23,” Sheikh Ahmed said in his email. “This reflects the strength of our proven business model, our careful forward planning, the hard work of all our employees, and our solid partnerships across the aviation and travel ecosystem.” ICA/Expat Media
