MEXICO – American Dustin Johnson cemented his status as the world’s number one golfer by winning the World Golf Championships (WGC)-Mexico Championship at the Club de Golf Chapultepec in Mexico City last Sunday.
His win in Mexico comes two weeks after his victory at the Genesis Open.
It is the first time for Johnson to be declared the world’s top golfer and he admits he feels pressured to maintain his ranking.
“It means a lot. It’s a tough spot to be in. There’s a lot of pressures on you. I came out and played really well,” said the 32-year-old Johnson.
Johnson defeated English golfer Tommy Fleetwood with one stroke, a come-from-behind victory after surrendering a big lead on the back nine.
His win also appeared to be reward for his patience after he started the WGC-Mexico tournament by hitting his drive out-of-bounds at the first hole.
Jonhson has now won 14 times on the PGA Tour, including four victories in WGC events, it was learned. GAC/Expat Media
