Dubai Customs officers seized more than 547kg of illegal drugs hidden in shipping containers destined for Canada.

The drug shipment originated from an Asian country, according to Dubai Customs. It was detected using Dubai Customs’ sophisticated system for tracking suspicious shipments, said Ahmed Mahboub Musabih, Director-General of Dubai Customs.

Musabih said Dubai’s efforts to combat organized crimes have earned acclaim from the World Trade Organisation and Interpol.

He commended the Dubai Customs officers for their work in intelligence analysis and shipment tracking that helped flag the illegal drug shipment.

“The aim is to bolster the UAE’s standing in global security. To this end, the government organisation dedicates all its resources and capabilities to safeguarding the global supply chain. With internally developed innovative systems, Dubai Customs effectively analyses data and monitors high-risk operations, driven by its skilled workforce,” he added. ICA/Expat Media
