DUBAI – Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road turned into a giant cycling track as thousands of cyclists descended on the super highway for the first Dubai Ride on Friday (November 20).
“You are part of history” flashed on the electronic traffic sign board as cyclists, in a rare opportunity, took over the six-lane highway on both sides of the road.
The highway accommodated participants in the 14km professional ride, while the adjacent Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Boulevard in Downtown Dubai saw cyclists in the 4km family-friendly ride from 5am to 8am.
It was the first time that Sheikh Zayed Road was closed to traffic for the first cycling event of its kind. Last year, the busy Dubai highway was also closed to traffic for the inaugural Dubai Run. CIT/Expat Media
