Dubai: Raffy Tulfo refuses Filipino’s artwork, offers to buy it instead

Philippine Senator Raffy Tulfo insisted on buying a Dubai-based Filipino artist’s painting on exhibit in Dubai, refusing it accept it as a gift.

The heartwarming exchange was witnessed by Expatmedia.net editors and other visitors at the launch of the OFW Night for Migrant Workers Day at the Department of Migrant Workers Office at the Philippine Consulate General Dubai on Friday night (June 9). He was joined by Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Alfonso Ferdinand Ver, Philippine Consul General Renato Dueñas Jr., Department of Migrant Workers Undersecretary Hans Leo Cacdac and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Administrator Arnel Ignacio.

“Magkano ito? (How much is this?),” Tulfo asked the artist, who replied that the painting costs Dh1,000, or 15,000 in Philippine peso.

“Dh50,000? Bibilhin ko to (I will buy it),” a smiling Tulfo told the artist, who politely corrected him by saying it is only P15,000.

Filipino Social Club President Ericson Reyes interjected by saying that the artist has actually prepared an artwork as a gift for Tulfo. The senator, however, insisted he will just buy the painting.
