The Dubai Police has warned the public against dealing with illegal gas cylinder sellers as well as the dangers of transporting gas cylinders in passenger vehicles.

The warning came after Dubai Police recently seized a bus loaded with unlicensed gas cylinders. According to the Dubai Police, the passenger bus was illegally transporting dozens of unlicensed gas cylinders, posing a safety risk to road users as the gas cylinders were stacked on top of each other.

“The transport of gas cylinders without safety regulations poses a serious danger to road users and can cause a humanitarian disaster if the vehicle is involved in any traffic accident on the road, as it might lead to explosion of those cylinders,” according to Dubai Police.

Meanwhile, Lieutenant Colonel Talib Mohammad Al Ameri, Head of Infiltrators Control Section in the General Department of Criminal Investigation, urged the public to only buy gas cylinders from licensed sellers.

Dubai has very strict rules on storage, handling and transportation of gas cylinders, which are considered highly flammable.

Last year, two Asian men were sentenced to a three-month jail term for transporting 27 gas cylinders without a permit. The duo was also fined Dh100,000 each before they were deported at the end of their jail term. ICA/Expat Media
