A Dubai Police officer lost his leg after a driver crashed her car into his patrol car as he was assisting a motorist whose vehicle broke down on the road.

The police officer’s leg had to be amputated after the crash in Jebel Ali. The crash also injured a passenger of the vehicle that broke down.

According to a Dubai Traffic Court, the incident happened on March 21 after a 30-year-old Emirati woman rammed her Porsche into the police patrol car.

The police officer was in the patrol car to guide a motorist whose vehicle broke down when the speeding Porsche rammed into his police patrol car. The woman’s Porsche also hit the vehicle that broke down.

A traffic expert told the Dubai Traffic Court that the horrific crash “was a direct result to her negligence and lack of attention”.

She was charged with endangering life and damaging property and was sentenced to one month in jail. Her driving licence was also suspended for three months.

The woman appealed the jail sentence and admitted to the charges. She won the appeal and her jail term was replaced with a Dh10,000 fine after the court granted her leniency.

“Despite the fact that the verdict is based on accurate legal grounds and should be upheld, the court sees in its capacity to take the defendant by leniency and amend the punishment to a fine of Dh10,000,” according to the verdict.

Prosecutors have appealed the verdict and a hearing is expected this month. ICA/Expat Media
