Two new labourer’s community markets will be opened in Dubai, the Dubai Municipality announced on Wednesday (October 11).

The Dubai Municipality will also rehabilitate the community labourer’s market in Al Quoz 4, and expand it to area of 14,231 square meters.

The labourer’s community market have become a popular haunt among residents looking for bargains. It is teeming with street food, fresh fruits and produce, as well as clothing and other apparel at friendly prices and bargains starting at Dh1. Unlike random markets that attract thousands of labourers and sell products without a license, the formal market focuses on eliminating practices that impact consumer and public health.

Dr. Naseem Rafie, Director of the Health and Safety Department at Dubai Municipality, said the rehabilitation and construction plan includes designated spaces for ready-to-eat food, vegetable and fruit shops, meat and fish, consumer shops, and clothing, as well as barbershops, sewing, and ticket centers.

Dubai Municipality will ensure that products and materials at a price range that matches the financial capability of workers and meets all health, safety, and food safety standards.

The municipality will supervise the hosting of recreational, social, and sporting events within these community markets to transform them into a sought-after recreational destination. ICA/Expat Media
