Dubai Marathon 2024: Major roads to close on January 7

Major roads in Dubai will close on Sunday (January 7) for the Dubai Marathon 2024, which is expected to draw thousands of runners from around the world.

The historic race returns this year after a four-year gap since the 2020 pandemic. The Dubai Marathon will take place in Jumeirah, with a route spanning 42.19km starting from Umm Suqeim Road. This year’s marathon will also include the wheelchair marathon, the 10km Road Race and the 4km Fun Run.

According to the Roads and Transport Authority, roads that are part of the race course will be closed. The marathon starts from 6am until 1pm.

The marathon route begins on Umm Suqeim Road near the Madinat Jumeirah and ends before the Dubai Police Academy.

Starting from Umm Suqeim Road, runners will turn left onto the carriageway heading up Al Sufouh. They will also pass the Dubai College Junction, the entrance to Palm Island, and the Dubai Media City entrance on the left, and then take U-turn back to The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi traffic lights.

The race continues back to Al Sufouh, passing the Madinat Jumeirah, Jumeirah Beach Road, Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach Hotel. It will also include the bridge at the Dubai Creek, with a U-turn at the Al Mehemal Road junction, then heading back to the Madinat Jumeirah junction.

Runners will complete the same lap a second time of the Jumeirah Beach Road section, then take a left turn after the Burj Al Arab junction, then run along Umm Suqeim Road towards the finish line before the Dubai Police Academy. ICA/Expat Media
