Accidents involving e-scooters and bicycles have led to four deaths and 25 injuries in Dubai this year, according to Dubai Police.

Police said the separate incidents happened between January to June, where more than 7,800 traffic violations were recorded and 4,474 e-scooters and bicycles were confiscated.

Major-General Abdullah Ali Al Ghaithi, assistant commandant for Operations Affairs, warned of “significant risks” when riders use e-scooters and bicycles in unauthorized areas or public roads.

Al Ghaithi warned of a fine of up to Dh300 for violations, including riding on undesignated areas, speeding at over 60kmph, carrying passengers, not wearing a helmet and reflective vest, and riding against the flow of traffic. He also urged residents to report violators to the police by calling 901 or via the app. ICA/Expat Media
