All traffic violation fines incurred in Dubai during the unprecedented weather on April 16 will be cancelled, the chief of Dubai Police announced.

Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, made the announcement on Wednesday (April 24).

Al Marri said the decision to waive traffic fines shows Dubai Police’s “commitment to the community, especially during exceptional circumstances”.

Sharjah Police also made a similar announcement on Monday, and added that it will issue free certificates to car owners whose vehicles were damaged by the rain and subsequent flooding.

Hundreds of vehicles were left stranded on roads across the emirates as heavy rain sparked widespread flooding. Municipality teams worked round-the-clock to rescue stranded people as well as remove debris and vehicles that have stalled on the roads.

As roads began to clear, Dubai Police issued a reminder to motorists to remove their stranded vehicles as soon as possible minimize road hazards and traffic delays. ICA/Expat Media
