Video: Dubai bus driver who returned Dh250,000 found in bus shares story

DUBAI – A public bus driver in Dubai who was honoured for his honesty after returning a bag that contained Dh250,000 has shared the story of how he found the bag of cash.

Noor Khan, who has worked as a bus driver for the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in the last 11 years, said he found the bag during a routine inspection at the end of his shift.

“After I finished my shift, I checked the bus and found a bag. The bag was a little bit open. I looked inside and found some money,” Khan said.

It turned out the bag contained Dh250,000 that was left behind by a commuter. Khan immediately alerted his supervisor and the bag was returned to the owner.

Khan, who is seen in an RTA video driving a bus to the Gold Souq, said a lot of people have asked him why he chose to return the money. “I said, this money is not my money,” he replied.

Khan was given a certificate of appreciation for his honesty, with RTA chief Mattar Al Tayer calling him an “exemplary employee”.

Al Tayer said Khan’s action “fully reflects the confidence in the loyalty and honesty of the employees of our public transit”.

Khan said the recognition he received was a “source of pride” for himself and for all public employees. He called his act of honesty a “part of my core duties”. ICA/Expat Media
