Dubai arrests tailgater, fines driver Dh50,000, seizes vehicle

Dubai Police has arrested a motorist and fined him Dh50,000 for tailgating and dangerously overtaking another vehicle on a busy highway.

The police force did not say when the incident happened, but released video footage on Thursday (August 24) showing what transpired on Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Road. Watch it:

In the video, a Nissan Patrol is seen moving just inches away from another vehicle on the fast lane, before the driver overtakes the other vehicle and then braking in front of it, nearly causing a collision.

Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police, called it a “reckless action”, adding that it “violates public standards and the rights of road users”.

Al Mazroui said that the vehicle has been impounded and the driver has been given 23 black traffic points in his record. Under the traffic law, reckless driving that endangers a person’s life is punishable with a fine of Dh50,000, 23 black points on the driver’s traffic file and the confiscation of the vehicle for 60 days.
