DUBAI – A vegetable truck driver has been arrested after border police in Dubai found 64 live falcons hidden in his truck.
The animal smuggling bid was foiled at the Hatta border crossing after Dubai Customs inspectors stopped the driver for acting suspiciously.
“The falcons were hidden behind vegetables and covered with wooden boards. But the inspectors were able to detect and seize them,” according to Dubai Customs.
Officials said the shipment of falcons did not have supporting documents.
The seized falcons were handed over to the veterinary quarantine department of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment at the border crossing.
In the first half of this year, Dubai Customs have made 44 different seizures of illegal shipment at the Hatta border crossing.
