No bad blood though between Filipino boxer, boxing promotions firm

MANILA – After eight years under its helm, Filipino boxer Nonito Donaire has left Top Rank Promotions.

ESPN’s Dan Rafael reported that even if 34-year-old Donaire still has one month left in his contract witn Top Rank, the latter decided to release the four-division world champ.

Donaire thanked Top Rank for what the promotions company has done for his career, notably for helping him become Fighter of the Year.

“But I’ve always been excited for new opportunities,” he added.

Donaire has a record of 37 wins and four losses. In his last fight held in Las Vegas last year, he lost to Jessie Magdaleno.

Donaire said he has been receiving offers to fight boxers from different promotions. “The phones have been going crazy the past couple of days. I am getting calls from everywhere—international, East Coast, West Coast. There are a lot of opportunities out there for me. There are a lot of big names out there I could go against.” he said.

Meanwhile, Rachel Donaire, who manages her husband, said they are open to a bout with featherweight titleholder Oscar Valdez of Al Haymon of Premier Boxing Champions. GAC/Expat Media
