Covid-19 cash aid for OFWs, Filipinos: All you need to know

DUBAI – Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) whose work has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic or Covid-19 may avail of cash assistance amounting to $200, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced.

A separate cash assistance program is also available for Filipinos working in private sector companies in the Philippines whose employment has been affected by the pandemic. According to DOLE, those qualified will get a P5,000 assistance through its COVID-19 Adjustment Measure Program.

Cash assistance for OFWs:

Who are qualified to get $200 cash aid?

1. Regular/documented OFWs: with valid passport and appropriate visa or permit to work in UAE,
2. Regular/documented OFWs: with employment contract processed by POEA or POLO
3. Documented workers who have lost their regular or documented status
4. Undocumented OFWs who are not registered with POEA or whose contracts were not processed by POEA or POLO but have undertaken actions to regularize their contracts or status
5. Undocumented OFWs who are not registered with POEA or whose contracts were not processed by POEA or POLO, but are active OWWA members at the time of availment.
6. Those who have experienced job displacement due to the UAE’s imposition of community quarantine
7. Those who did not receive financial support/assistance from employers

How many times can I avail of the assistance?

This is a one-time assistance from DOLE.

How do I avail of the program?

Applicants with residence visa in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Fujairah, Ras Al Khaimah and Umm Al Quwain can contact POLO Dubai for assistance. For Filipinos based in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, contact the Philippine Embassy.

4. Upload the following supporting documents:

– Copy of valid passport with employment visa

– Any proof of employment: Verified employment contract, OEC, valid OWWA membership, Emirates ID, Residence Visa, Re-Entry Visa

– Proof of loss of employment due to Covid-19

– For those with legal case: proof of a pending case that has caused their current “undocumented status, such as case reference number, case endorsement stamped by the POLO, etc.

5. Upon receiving complete requirements, POLO shall evaluate the documents within five working days and notify the worker through email of the approval or disapproval of the application within five working days.

Who are getting P5,000 financial aid?

Employees of private sector companies in the Philippines whose work has been affected by the temporary closure of companies or flexible work arrangements due to Covid-19 may avail of P5,000 financial aid from DOLE.

How do I avail of the program?

Your employer must apply to DOLE’s COVID-19 Adjustment Measure Program or CAMP. Employers must submit their company payroll for February or earlier, which is before the implementation of flexible working arrangements or temporary closure. They must download the Establishment Report of COVID Form in the DOLE website or click here. The form is also available in all DOLE regional offices’ websites and official Facebook pages. Once accomplished, the form must be submitted through email to the DOLE regional or field office in their area. A DOLE representative said that the money will be deposited to the recipient’s bank account or through money remittance for those without a payroll account.
