DUBAI – The Dubai Police has urged the public to follow social distancing measures amid the coronavirus outbreak while also confirming that it has arrested a woman who violated the initiative.
The Dubai Police on Tuesday (March 24) did not give details about the suspect’s identity but said she is a European national of Arab origin. Police said the woman was arrested for “posting a video showing her indifference to the #StayHome national campaign and encouraging people to defy authorities’ social distancing instructions”.
The Dubai Police said that legal measures were taken against her and the case has been referred to the public prosecution.
UAE authorities have been taking preventive measures across the country to curb the spread of the new coronavirus or Covid-19, which has infected 50 new people on Tuesday (March 24), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 248.
Dubai Police has repeatedly stressed the importance of residents fully complying with directives issued by authorities to safeguard public health.
Police said that violators will face imprisonment and or a fine ranging from Dh200,000 to Dh1 million.
“The law will strictly deal with anyone risking the security, safety and comfort of members of our society,” the Dubai Police said.
