Pope Francis has confirmed that he will attend the COP28 climate conference that will start in Dubai later this month.
In an interview with Italy’s state-run RAI television, Pope Francis said he is expected to be in Dubai from December 1 to 3.
This will be the first time that a pontiff will be at the annual UN environmental meeting since it began in 1995. This year’s COP28 will be held at Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 13.
Pope Francis has been very vocal about climate change and global warming. “We are still in time to stop it,” Pope Francis said in the interview. “Our future is at stake, the future of our children and our grandchildren. A bit of responsibility is needed.”
On October 4, he released a major document appealing to politicians and leaders to do more to reverse the damage of climate change, saying that Earth “may be nearing the breaking point”. ICA/Expat Media
