Arab convicted of embezzling Dh69,175 from travel agency

An Arab sales executive of a travel agency in Dubai has been convicted of embezzling Dh69,175 from his employer.

The Dubai Criminal Court sentenced him in absentia. He was fined Dh10,000 and ordered to pay back Dh69,175 to the travel agency.

According to records, the Arab man collected reservation payments from customers for hotels, visas and flights, but did not deposit the money into the company account.

The company’s accountant raised an alarm after discovering bills for payments from customers that did not reflect in the company’s account.

When confronted, the sales agent admitted to keeping the money, saying he was in need of cash. He did not show up in court for his sentencing. ICA/Expat Media
