Could Amir Khan fight Manny Pacquiao next?

LONDON – After a nearly two-year hiatus, former welterweight world champion Amir Khan will step back into the ring on April 21 in Liverpool against an unnamed opponent, he announced.

Khan, 31, made the announcement on Wednesday alongside British boxing promoter Eddie Hearn with whom he has signed a three fight deal.

Hearn said the target is to set up the “biggest fights possible” for Khan. The promoter said the list could include Manny Pacquiao, Kell Brook, Keith Thurman and Errol Spence.

Khan’s last fight was in May 2016 when he stepped up to middleweight to face Mexican boxing star Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez and was knocked out in the sixth round.

Khan said he has his eys set on becoming a world champion again.

“I’m determined to win another World Championship and I’m confident I’ve got the right team behind me to help me do so,” said Khan at a press conference in London.

“I’ve been out of the ring for too long, and I’m desperate to make up for lost time, starting in April,” he said. GAD/Expat Media
