Abu Dhabi issues advisory on siren test around nuclear energy plant

Sirens will blare in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday (June 29) as part of a siren test around the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in Al Dhafra region.

The test is being conducted in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Police and is expected to last for approximately three minutes at around 10am.

“This is a standard annual test and no action is needed,” according to Nawah Energy Company on Twitter.

The purpose of the exercise is to test the siren performance.

The Barakah plant is the first nuclear energy plant in the Arab world, and consists of four major nuclear reactors that are expected to produce energy that can help the world minimize 21 million tonnes of carbon emissions every year. ICA/Expat Media
