17 Filipinos displaced after Dubai apartment fire

DUBAI – Seventeen Filipinos were displaced after their shared apartment caught fire in Dubai’s Al Rigga area, Expatmedia.net learnt.

The incident happened in Lootah Building in Al Rigga at 4pm on November 11, volunteer social worker Riz Gonzales of Little People Big Hearts told Expatmedia.net.

The fire reportedly started in one of the rooms in the apartment on the fifth floor of the building.

No one was reported injured or killed in the blaze, which completely destroyed the apartment. The fire was put out before it could spread to nearby apartments.

As of Wednesday (November 18), the apartment has been cleared of debris and repair work was ongoing to restore the apartment to habitable state.

Meanwhile, tenants of the affected apartment have taken shelter among friends and relatives in the emirate. They also received relief goods from Dubai residents and volunteers from Little People Big Hearts. ICA/Expat Media
