DUBAI – Fifteen construction workers tasked for a “tiling job” in Dubai thought it was just another day at work… until they were each surprised with a Dh25,000 scholarship fund for their children.
The gesture was part of Etisalat’s celebration of International Workers’ Day on Saturday (May 1). The workers were selected from different companies in the UAE. Watch the surprise unfold here:
The workers pieced together a massive tile structure for Etisalat that said “You’ve built today, so let us build your child’s tomorrow”.
Tears of joy flowed when, at the end of the job, they were told about the hidden message of the puzzle: they will be receiving the fund for their children’s education.
Shaikh Riyazuddin said the scholarship fund came at the right time. “I want to make sure the daughter I’ve adopted gets a higher education so that she’s able to stand on her own two feet and then help others,” he said.
Abdul Latif Awan, father of two, called it an “answered prayer” during Ramadan.
Mohd Najam Ul Hassan, another father of two, said the scholarship will help him realise his dream of seeing his children get a good education. “My only dream was that my children would be well-educated,” he said. ICA/Expat Media
