DUBAI – A Filipino male beauty pageant winner gave up his title on Monday (November 5) as Man of the Philippines-UAE 2018.
In a letter to organisers of Man of the Philippines-UAE, Ian Rowe Giron cited conflicts in his work schedule as the reason for his resignation.
Giron, 28, was recently hired in a new job in Abu Dhabi. “I am in a probationary period of my employment and I was advised to fulfil my tasks and duties without taking any holidays,” he said.
The former title holder from General Santos City in the Philippines was scheduled to fly to Manila later this month to represent the Filipino community in the UAE in the grand finals of the Man of the Philippines pageant.
Organisers said they regret Giron’s resignation, but that one of the primary duties of the title holder is to represent the UAE in the national pageant in Manila.
“We thank him for his efforts in Man of the Philippines-UAE and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours,” said Ryan Banks, one of the organisers of the Dubai pageant.
Banks said the title Man of the Philippines-UAE will automatically be assumed by first runner-up Phiem Alcalde. Kevinson Pineza De Ocampo retains his title as Man of the Philippines-Dubai.
Alcalde and De Ocampo are scheduled to fly to Manila to compete in the Man of the Philippines grand finals later this month.
In Dubai, the title holders were scored by a seven-member judging panel, led by 2007 Binibining Pilipinas International Nadia Lee Cien Shami, during the September 28 grand pageant at Carlton Palace Hotel.
Candidates wowed the crowd with elaborate, fantastical costumes in the creative national costume category, while seven finalists impressed judges in the question and answer portion.
Man of the Philippines-UAE was organised by Expat Media with the support of Star Realms, Kiwanis Club Dubai and Eventologist Dubai. The pageant was sponsored by Chicking, Petals by Carmille, Treppan Hotel & Suites by Fakhruddin, KBH Group, Shuttereality, Ace Sagario Hair & Beauty, Calivo Couture, Jojo Lapore Couture, Michael Diaz Gent’s Salon, Tantra Club, Fortune Hotel, Ortego’s Grill and Inasal House.
