Wrong answer on UAE Hope Probe costs Dh46,000 off man’s purse money

MUMBAI – An Indian TV game show contestant lost Dh46,000 after he failed to answer a question about the UAE Hope Probe.

The man, Akash Waghmare, was participating in Kaun Banega Crorepati, a game show hosted by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

The 27-year-old delivery boy had already amassed 12.5 lakh (Dh62,300) from the game but took a chance to answer another question so he could win 25 lakh (Dh124,600).

He wanted more money to build his dream home. Unfortunately, taking another question proved to be the wrong decision.

The question was: “The spacecraft ‘Hope’ became the first probe from the Middle East to enter the orbit of Mars. Which country’s mission was Hope?”

He was asked to pick from four options: Iran, Saudi Arabia, UAE and Qatar. Since he had exhausted all his lifelines, he had no choice but to pick the answer himself.

He chose Saudi Arabia, the wrong answer that cost him 9.3 lakh (Dh46,000).

The UAE Hope Probe is considered the UAE and the Arab world’s first space mission to Mars. It reached the orbit of the Red Planet in February after a 7-month journey. IHB/Expat Media
