DUBAI – A Syrian refugee in Germany got the surprise of his life after receiving an old cupboard from a charity organisation.
The 25-year-old man was cleaning the donated furniture when he found €50,000 in cash and more than €100,000 in savings books hidden under a board.
Instead of keeping the money, the man told local authorities who then alerted Minden police.
Police hailed him “Hero of the Day”, saying he “behaved in an exemplary manner and deserves great credit”.
“People often report small amounts of money found to the police, but such a large sum is absolutely exceptional,” the police said in a statement.
The police are now looking for the owner of the money.
