Woman’s new driver’s license features her in face mask

CALIFORNIA – An American woman got a surprise when her new driver’s license arrived in the mail with a photo of her in a face mask.

Lesley Pilgrim, 25, said the incident happened after she went to a Department of Motor Vehicle’s office in California to renew her driver’s license.

She said staff at the licensing office had enforced social distancing and asked visitors to always wear their face mask.

Pilgrim said that as she got to the photo booth, she kept her mask on and was surprised when staff took her photo with her mask on.

The California law student said she assumed that the staff corrected his mistake after he took another photo of her without a face mask.

However, a week later, her driver’s license arrived in the mail and featured a photo of her wearing her face mask.

Pilgrim said the incident made her laugh, but also wonder about the legal repercussions of using the identification card.

“No way is this going to pass as valid identification when I travel or if I’m pulled over — you can’t see 80 percent of my face,” she told Yahoo Life.

Pilgrim said she has been contacted by authorities who apologized and offered to issue her a new license. CCP/Expat Media
