Thailand-Philippine film collaboration “Under Parallel Skies” will be showing in UAE cinemas starting June 6, organizers told Expat Media.

The comedy-drama starring Thai star Win Metawin and Filipino actress Janella Salvador marks a first for both actors. It is considered the first Philippine-Thai film collaboration since Mario Maurer and Erich Gonzales in 2012, the first English-speaking role for Metawin and Salvador’s international movie debut.

“It’s my first international movie and I am very proud to be part of this project and to work with Win of course,” said Salvador, who is set to perform at Dubai World Trade Centre on June 8.

“Under Parallel Skies” follows the story of a Thai bachelor named Parin who travels to Hong Kong in search of his missing mother. He encounters a Filipino hotel receptionist named Irish who helps him navigate love, heartbreak and healing in the foreign city.

The cross-border movie was written and directed by award-winning Filipino director Sigrid Andrea Bernardo. It is distributed by Viva Films and promoted by Ahead Unlimited and Star Realms in the UAE.

The movie premiered at the 17th Asian Film Awards where Metawin took home the award for Rising Star. “The movie has everything – romance, drama, and comedy. I think you will enjoy this film so please support the film,” Metawin told reporters at the movie’s premiere in Bangkok.

Critics have said the unlikely pairing of Metawin and Salvador has shown surprisingly good onscreen chemistry in this romance-comedy set in charming Hong Kong’s Peng Chau island. Watch the trailer here:
